Young thugs attack store clerk over price of candy

Nothing sweet about these candy fiends. Police say two young thugs assaulted a store clerk in Glen Park after becoming enraged at the cost of candy Wednesday night.

The battery occurred at a store in the 600 block of Chenery Street around 10:20 p.m.

The clerk told cops the punks swore at him in a threatening manner when he told them the price of some of the shop’s sweets. The thugs paid for the items, but while doing so “they pushed a stack of paper bags onto the floor,” police at Ingleside Station said.

The clerk grabbed one of the suspects in an effort to stop him from leaving the store. That led to a scuffle in which two wine bottles were damaged, police said.

Cops were called, but the punks fled before their arrival.

The clerk complained of pain in his cheek and chest area, but refused medical assistance.
