Young rapper fatally shot in Ingleside area

A 20-year-old aspiring rapper was shot late Sunday night at his friend’s Ingleside district home, police said, and died later at a hospital.

Officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 300 block of Louisburg Street at 11:33 p.m. and found Jahmad Karriem with a bullet wound to his chest, police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

Karriem was taken to a hospital, where he died. The killing marks The City’s 17th homicide of 2012.

Police said Karriem was at a friend’s house and went downstairs. His friends heard gunshots and saw a possible shooting suspect running toward a getaway vehicle.

No motive for the shooting was revealed by police Monday, and few other details were released.

On his Facebook page, Karriem identified himself as rapper GuREALah City. The Facebook page noted that he was engaged to be married.

“It feels so unreal like he playin with us,” a loved one said on Twitter. “But u know we strong and we gon get thru it.”
