Would-be SF renter hoodwinked out of $388

The victim of an online scam last month paid $388 into a PayPal account to rent an apartment in The City for a few days only to find out there was no vacancy, police said.

When the victim arrived at the so-called rental, the owner of the house on Irving Street in the Sunset said he never heard of the con-artist who posted the ad and that there was no rental available, police said.

The incident was reported Aug. 12, and no arrests have been made in this case, police said.
