Worst Valentine's Day gift: DUI charges

The passenger of a vehicle that crashed near City College of San Francisco last month is facing drunken driving charges, prosecutors said Thursday.

A woman in the front passenger’s seat allegedly took command of the steering wheel during an argument with her boyfriend about the way he was driving.

That act, according to court records, caused the vehicle to crash on Ocean Avenue near Howth Street.

The California Highway Patrol said 23-year-old Jordyn Beebe of San Francisco was drunk. Even though she wasn’t in the driver’s seat, Beebe was cited for DUI and other charges.

On Valentine’s Day, Beebe pleaded not guilty to four misdemeanor charges and an infraction.

The incident happened about 2 a.m. Jan. 26, according to court records. Beebe got into an argument with her boyfriend, who was driving a 1984 BMW. They were apparently bickering about the boyfriend’s driving abilities when suddenly the boyfriend took his hands off the steering wheel and basically said, “You drive.”

Beebe allegedly grabbed the wheel and steered the vehicle off the roadway. The BMW struck a curb and flipped over.
While Beebe was cited, her boyfriend was not charged in connection with the crash.

The District Attorney’s Office has charged Beebe with DUI, reckless driving, being an unlicensed driver and failure to provide proof of insurance, Assistant District Attorney Alex Bastian said.

On Thursday, Beebe’s attorney appeared in court on her behalf and entered her plea of not guilty. Valentine’s Day also happens to be her birthday, records show. Beebe reportedly has no previous criminal record.
