Women pepper spray clerk after M&M's theft

Two women went to extreme lengths Thursday to steal a couple of bags of M&M candies from a store near City College of San Francisco's main campus, police said.

One of the women, who appeared to be in her 20s, made a purchase at a store in the 900 block of Ocean Avenue about 11:30 a.m. On her way out, she grabbed two bags of M&M's without paying, police said.

The clerk, a 58-year-old man, chased after her. Once outside, he saw a second woman hand the first woman a can of pepper spray. As the clerk closed in on the first woman, she threw one package of M&M's at the man and sprayed him with the pepper spray, police said.

The women then fled in a four-door vehicle.
