Woman to face charges in Potrero Hill stabbing death

A 48-year-old woman accused of stabbing another woman to death during an argument at a Potrero Hill public housing development Monday is scheduled to be arraigned today on murder charges.

Maria Burgos, of San Francisco, is being held on $2 million bail in the case. She allegedly stabbed 26-year-old Ernestine Herron, of San Francisco, during a street dispute in the 1000 block of Connecticut Street on Monday at 11:30 a.m.

Herron was stabbed in the neck with a kitchen knife and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Burgos, who lives in the area, was arrested a short time later, according to police.

Herron frequented the area as well, and the two women knew each other, police said, but their exact relationship and the motive for the killing remain under investigation.

Police have said the killing did not appear to be gang-related, or motivated by a dispute over a man.
