Woman shot during possible mugging in Potrero Hill

A woman was shot in Potrero Hill this morning but is expected to survive, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The victim was reportedly in the area of 22nd and Missouri streets about 8:40 a.m. when she was shot by an unknown suspect, Shyy said. The suspect or suspects fled before police arrived.

The victim was hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Shyy said.

Police did not have a good description of the suspects as of Thursday morning.

Officers were canvassing the area in the hopes of finding surveillance footage that might have recorded the incident.

A witness at the scene said she talked to police and that the incident might have been a mugging that turned violent.

According to the witness, officers told her that they think the suspect or suspects had been pacing the block perhaps searching for the right holdup opportunity. The witness also said a lot of people walking in that area are on their way to the 22nd Street Caltrain station.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call police at (415) 575-4444 or send a text to TIP411 with “SFPD” at the beginning of the message.
