Woman robbed, thrown to ground in Portola

A woman was dragged along the street as she was robbed of her backpack and other items in the Portola neighborhood on Wednesday, police said.

The 53-year-old victim was walking along Silver Avenue near San Bruno Avenue about 7:10 a.m. when two men came up from behind and grabbed her backpack from her hand, police said.

The suspects also went for the victim's purse and threw the woman to the ground, police said. She was able to hold onto the purse while she was dragged for several feet before witnesses began yelling at the suspects and they fled the scene with the victim's backpack, jacket and lunch box.

The woman sustained minor injuries in the robbery but refused medical treatment at the scene.
