Woman robbed in SoMa, car windows smashed

A woman was robbed and had her car windows smashed by a thug in the South of Market area early Wednesday morning, police said.

The 41-year-old victim had parked her car on Merlin Street, an alley between Fifth and Sixth streets off of Harrison Street, about 4:25 a.m. when a man, who appeared to be in his 30s, approached and asked for a cigarette and some money. The woman said no.

The man then grabbed her bag and took out her wallet and snatched her cash and then for some unknown reason smashed the passenger's side and driver's side windows of her car before fleeing the scene.

The woman, at least, was uninjured in the ordeal. No arrest has been made.
