Woman robbed after being assaulted with her own flashlight

Attacking your driver is not a bright idea.

A woman was assaulted with her own flashlight and robbed by two thugs Thursday in the mid-Market Street area, police said.

The 50-year-old victim met the two suspects, described only as men in their 20s, at a bar at 18th and Castro streets. Around 1:30 a.m. she agreed to drive them to the Powell Street BART station, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

On the way to the station, Esparza said, a spat escalated into a heated argument before one man hit the woman in the head with the flashlight. She pulled over at Fifth and Mission streets.

During the scuffle, one man ripped a bracelet off the woman’s wrist, Esparza said, and fled. After the creeps were gone, the victim noticed her cellphone also was missing.

The victim drove to a hospital, but her injuries were not life threatening, Esparza said.

No arrests have been made.
