Woman killed in accident on Caltrain tracks identified

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has identified a woman who was killed when the car she was driving was struck by a Caltrain in Palo Alto on Friday as Judith Goldblatt.

Northbound train No. 369 struck Goldblatt's Nissan Altima rental car at Charleston Road near Alma Street at about 5 p.m. Friday, Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.

None of the 300 to 400 passengers aboard the train were injured.

Goldblatt, a 65-year-old resident of Indianapolis, Ind., and her husband were visiting family in Palo Alto. Her husband managed to exit the car.

San Mateo County Transit Police, a branch of the sheriff's office, did not know whether Goldblatt had attempted to escape from the car, Bartholomew said.

Caltrain service was halted in both directions after the accident, but resumed shortly before 8 p.m.
