Woman found dead in SUV may have had self-inflicted injuries

The injuries sustained by a woman who was found dead inside a Ford Explorer in Belmont on Saturday night may have been self-inflicted, police said Sunday.

Officers went to the 1500 block of El Verano Way at about 10:25 p.m. on a report of a suspicious vehicle and found the 49-year-old Redwood
City woman inside, according to police.

The woman appeared to have suffered trauma "consistent with knives," which were found inside the locked vehicle, police said.

She was pronounced dead about 10 minutes later.

Detectives have contacted the woman's family, police said.

The death remains under investigation.
