Woman fatally shot after alleged burglary

A woman was fatally shot this morning while evading police in Benicia after an alleged burglary attempt, according to police Capt. Steve Mortensen.

A Benicia resident called police and reported seeing an unfamiliar woman walking down the stairs of his neighbor’s house in the 500 block of Anderson Lane about 6:45 a.m., Mortensen said.

When the resident approached the woman, she allegedly threatened him with a handgun before fleeing on a bicycle she reportedly stole, according to Mortensen.

Responding officers located the woman leaving the scene in a maroon truck. The woman then pulled into a condominium parking lot and three police cars pulled up behind her, Mortensen said.

The woman was fatally shot, Mortensen said, but details regarding the shooting have not been released.

Benicia police and the Solano County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident, according to Mortensen.
