Woman arrested on arson charges in Yerba Buena Gardens fires

A woman was arrested on arson charges after she reportedly started a fire in a Yerba Buena Gardens bathroom and garbage can, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The 42-year-old suspect reportedly entered the women's bathroom, rolled up some toilet paper in the handicap stall and lit it ablaze, police said. An employee arrived and put the fire out.

The suspect then went outside and walked over to a nearby garbage can and lit that on fire, Esparza said. The employee saw this and put that fire out.

Police arrived and located the suspect. She reportedly resisted arrest but was ultimately taken into custody.

The fire department was not called because the employee had extinguished the fires, police said.
