Woman arrested on arson charges after allegedly setting her mattress on fire

A woman was arrested and booked on arson charges after setting her mattress and other items in her Mid-Market residence on fire Monday, police said.

The Fire Department responded to the first block of Sixth Street about 4:22 p.m. and saw that a 38-year-old woman had set her mattress and other items on fire, police said. The woman had also reportedly cut a hole in the ceiling of her room and placed burning material inside the hole.

The Fire Department put out the fires and police arrested the woman, whose identity was not released Tuesday.
