Woman, 88, robbed in Chinatown apartment

An 88-year-old woman was robbed by force in her own Chinatown apartment on Tuesday, police said.

The victim was reportedly followed by the suspect into her room in the 900 block of Clay Street about 10 a.m., police said.

The suspect put his hand over her mouth and searched her clothing for money, police said. He then searched the room for more money, found some and fled the scene.

The woman was not injured in the robbery, police said.

The suspect was said to be a man in his 50s. No arrest has been made.

At least two other women have been victims of robbery or attempted robbery in their own Chinatown apartments in the past 30 days.

On April 25, a woman was robbed by a man posing as an exterminator in the 600 block of Grant Avenue and on April 29, a man posing as management of an apartment building in the 800 block of Pacific Street attempted to steal a resident's purse.

In those cases, the suspect was said to be a man between 30 and 40 years old.
