Wireless capabilities now offered on BART in Transbay Tube

For transit passengers incapable of lasting more than seven minutes without tapping in to the internet, don’t worry—BART has now got you covered.

The regional transit agency announced Monday that it is extending its wireless network coverage to include the Transbay Tube, the underground passage that connects San Francisco with the East Bay.

Over the weekend, four different providers—Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile—installed equipment allowing mobile phone users to access the internet while travelling in the tube.

With the latest installation, BART passengers will now have continuous wireless internet access from Balboa Park to the West Oakland station. The installation and maintenance costs are covered by the providers, and BART does not charge a fee to its passengers for the service.
