Winaker gives Stanford a walk-off victory

STANFORD — Freshman Matt Winaker doubled home the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Stanford baseball team slipped past Nevada 6-5 Tuesday at Sunken Diamond.

With one out in the ninth, junior Jonny Locher singled and went to second on a balk. After freshman Beau Branton walked, Winaker drilled the first pitch he saw down the right-field line to score Locher as the Cardinal evened their record at 4-4.

Sophomore Alex Dunlap went 3-for-5 to as Stanford pounded out 12 hits. Winaker, Branton and Jesse Kuet each had two hits.
