Who will coin the best cigarette slogan?

The Middle Polk Neighborhood Association is offering $150 in gift certificates to the San Franciscan who coins the catchiest phrase to help sweep the streets of discarded cigs and misplaced menthols.

A pilot project to rid Polk Street of cigarette butts includes installation of 10 cigarette receptacles on neighborhood businesses and five additional ashtrays mounted on public litter receptacles, according to the Department of Public Works.

City residents are also invited to submit a “catchy, memorable name and slogan that motivates smokers to safely deposit cigarette butts in the proper place: in ashtrays/bins and not on the sidewalk or street.”

Entries can be submitted through the association’s website, by e-mailing clean@middlepolk.org, or by sending a message via Twitter to DPW . All entries are due by Dec. 8 and will be scored by a group of community judges and volunteers.
