White House turns down recommendation from own commission 

The White House dismissed a recommendation from its own deficit reduction commission, National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, to hold a summit with congressional leaders next year and work out a bipartisan, long-term plan to cut $3.9 trillion in deficits over the next nine years. Disappointed co-chairmen Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson later issued a statement calling on President Barack Obama to take “the critical next step.”
