Wet weather slows commute

The wet weather really poured it on at the start of Tuesday’s commute, and drivers are slowing down and taking their time getting to work.

There are no serious accidents, but there are small fenders benders and minor injury accidents out there, according to California Highway Patrol officials. The rain flooded a portion of Interstate 280 southbound near Mariposa Street at Potrero Hill, and drivers heading south to the Highway 101 interchange experienced delays.

That flooding and another on Interstate 880 southbound — both caused by clogged drains, according to CHP — have been cleared, but heavy traffic loads are contributing to delays.

The rough winter weather on the East Coast is affecting airport traffic at San Francisco International Airport, according to officials. Travelers can expect some delays averaging about 70 minutes starting at noon.
