Weekend forecast shows sunny skies

Sunny skies will return to the Bay Area just in time for the weekend.

San Francisco residents who took out their winter coats for one of the colder July stretches on record can put them aside and get ready for temperatures that will reach 60 degrees by Sunday, with clear blue skies, according to the National Weather Service.

But, forecaster Diana Henderson said the clouds and colder temperatures will return.

“We have a very cold ocean off to our west,” she said. “This time of year, it is very foggy off the coast.”

Today, San Francisco will start with morning fog, but the day will see some blue skies and warm up to about 68 degrees, with winds reaching 10 mph.

By Saturday, there will be partly cloudy skies in the afternoon, with highs reaching 68 degrees. The same can be expected Sunday, Henderson said. Lows will be in the 50s.

This type of weather, with clouds in the morning and blue skies in the afternoon, will remain until September, Henderson said.

“The coldest winters are really a summer in San Francisco,” she said.
