Weekend crime did not pay for these criminals 

Violent crooks must have been bummed about stealing just a book, losing a battle over a purse and getting nabbed stealing a leather jacket in separate weekend incidents:

40th Avenue near Kirkham Street
3:25 p.m. Sunday
Crooked thugs punched a 24-year-old man while they held him in a headlock during a robbery. They stole his bag, which contained only a book.

Market and Ninth streets
7:20 p.m. Sunday
A 38-year-old man was stabbed in the left torso during a spat with a 40-year-old man, who was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene. The injury was not life threatening.

Plymouth Avenue near Montana Street
6 p.m. Saturday

An 18-year-old woman who refused to let go of her purse was dragged on the ground by one of three robbers. The victim lost her cellphone, but won the fight over her purse. She suffered only ankle scratches.

Post and Grant streets
6:22 p.m. Saturday

Two goon shoplifters who assaulted an employee at a Union Square department store were arrested. The thugs, a man and woman ages 24, tried to steal a leather jacket. The victim was not seriously injured.
