Website creates awareness through food 

CEO Ben Dehan's San Francisco-based Foodbuzz, the largest social network for foodies, recently asked 24 bloggers to host a Gulf of Mexico-inspired meal party to benefit the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

Why did you throw the meal party? We are into sustainability and preserving the culture that surrounds food-centric areas, so New Orleans is of specific interest to us. I’m also from Louisiana, so I’ve spent a lot of time fishing down there.

How does this event help? We’re trying to raise awareness within the blogosphere. We’re a grass-roots organization, so we provide a platform for food bloggers and we hope to have the message permeate through the 13,000 or so blogs that frequent our hub.

What is a Gulf-inspired meal party? Every month, we have a contest with bloggers. We pick a topic or they submit an idea for an entertainment-related dinner party, and this month’s topic is Gulf relief.

Is Foodbuzz directly involved in the event? We usually don’t participate, but Foodbuzz was one of the 24 participants for this event. One employee donated their house, so everyone in the company cooked something.
