Weather expected to heat up this week

Keep the sunscreen handy this week because the sun will continue to shine bright, with temperatures as high as 87 degrees accompanied by a warm breeze.

The mercury remained in the low 70s during the weekend, but is expected to soar as high as 87 on Tuesday, the hottest day of the week, then gradually cool back down to the 70s through Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

However, the temperature is not expected to break any records like it did in 1976, when the highest temperature recorded on Oct. 12 was 91 degrees, weather service meteorologist Austin Cross said.

Because of an off-shore flow with high pressure and low humidity, it’s also hazardous fire weather, Cross said.
