Weather and traffic: Friday morning

Good news: Weather should be gorgeous and traffic isn't any knottier than usual, with the exception of an accident on southbound 101 near Redwood Drive in San Rafael and a disabled big rig on Highway 4 in Antioch.

Morning fog and low clouds are expected to dissipate over the course of the day to partly cloudy conditions today. Winds of 15 to 25 knots with gusts of 35 knots in San Francisco and the Peninsula have caused a small craft advisory to go into effect in the San Francisco Bay and off the coast. Highs are expected in the 60s near 70 today. Lows are expected in the mid 50s.

Bay Area freeways are moving easily for the most part this morning, with notable exceptions in Marin and Contra Costa counties.

On southbound U.S. Route 101 between Novato and San Rafael, traffic is moving slowly due to a non-injury collision in San Rafael near Redwood Drive. Reported at 6:53, the backup stretched as far north as California Highway 37. The California Highway Patrol indicated the backup is expected to be cleared by about 7:40 a.m.

Westbound California Highway 4 is moving slowly through Antioch because of a disabled big rig blocking a lane just west of A Street. Traffic is moving very slowly behind that obstruction. The CHP indicated that workers are trying to move the truck.
