Wavves awash with new music and attention

It’s no secret who Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino happens to be dating – the like-minded So-Cal surf-pop musician Nathan Williams, who fronts a fizzy outfit called Wavves.

So it’s no surprise that Best Coast pops up on Wavves’ upcoming “Life Sux” EP, on a track called “Nodding Off.”

But Williams has a lot more up his slacker sleeve, including the EP’s collaboration with F*cked Up, “Destroy,” and a zany new single with the unforgettable title of “I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl” (and Hey – don’t we all?). “Life Sux” hits on Sept. 20 via the band’s own Ghost Ramp Records (www.ghostramp.com).

But the “Grohl” track has already found some great outside placement – in the pilot episode for MTV’s new January-premiering series “I Just Want My Pants Back,” which will also feature 20 other Wavves compositions during its 12-episode run.

The show’s music is supervised by KCRW legend Nic Harcout, a huge Williams fan. It’s directed by Doug Liman, based on the popular novel of the same name by David J. Rosen, and it follows a group of friends as they navigate their turbulent post-college years.

And fans who can’t wait for the full record can download “Grohl” for free, Monday, at www.soundtrack.mtv.com.
