Violence unabated as two are slain Sundayin S.F.

Two minors on bicycles gunned down a 32-year-old San Francisco resident in Visitacion Valley just hours after another man was found shot and killed in a low-rent hotel in the Bayview district Sunday.

Medical examiners identified one of the victims as 32-year-old San Francisco resident Byron Smith and the other as 35-year-old Dejohn Maybon, though they were unable to determine where Maybon lived. Both are being treated as homicide victims, according to a spokesman in the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

Smith was shot multiple times at 9:40 a.m. by two juveniles between the ages of 15 and 18 who chased him along the 100 block of Velasco Avenue, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No suspects have been identified.

Maybon was found dead early Sunday morning in a room at the Franciscan Hotel, located at the 6600 block of Third Street. Police responded to reports of shots fired at 2:30 a.m.; Maybon was found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Suspects in Maybon’s shooting are still at large. It is unknown whether Smith’s and Maybon’s shootings are related. The deaths were the latest in what has proven to be a violent Labor Day weekend. A couple was found stabbed to death in an Ingleside home Friday and four were shot — one fatally — in separate incidents Thursday and Friday.

The bodies of Robert Peplies, 45, whose city of residence is not yet known, and Linda Almanza, 31, of San Francisco, were discovered just after noon Friday at a home on the first block of Sargent Street.

The man who reported their deaths had entered the home and found a man dead of apparent stab wounds near the front door. The caller then went into a bedroom and found a woman also dead of apparent stab wounds, according to Police Department spokesman Neville Gittens.

Medical examiners have not yet identified the victim of a fatal stabbing that took place at 2:10 a.m. Friday on the first block of McAllister Street, because they have not yet notified the victim’s next of kin.

That attack followed three shootings Thursday night: one on the 100 block of Taylor Street in the Tenderloin; one on the 1800 block of Sunnydale Avenue in Visitacion Valley; and one on the 1700 block of McKinnon Street, according to police.

In each incident, one male victim was sent to San Francisco General Hospital. All three are expected to survive. No arrests have been made in any of the attacks.
