Victim snatched off street now safe

More details have emerged in the case of a woman who was kidnapped last week in South of Market, but has since been found safe.

The 20-year-old victim was walking with a friend near Mission and 10th streets about 3:40 p.m. Feb. 28 when a car drove up and someone yanked her inside, police said last week.

Officer Carlos Manfredi said Monday the woman has been found and is OK. Her family has been notified of her whereabouts and condition, he said.

The Southern Police Station last weekend said the victim and her friend had arrived in The City from Reno, Nev., the day she was abducted. The friend told police that after arriving in town, the two visited a hotel on Ninth Street, checking in with the friend’s “self-admitted pimp,” police said.

The victim and the friend then reportedly went to the Mission district to solicit for prostitution, Southern station police said. While en route, police said, the suspect vehicle began following the women before the victim was forcibly taken into the car.
