Victim in Sunset district homicide identified

A 25-year-old man was shot and killed in the Sunset district early Saturday morning, police said.

The shooting occurred near35th Avenue and Rivera Street shortly after 1 a.m. The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Edgar Yegiyan of San Francisco.

The victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso when police arrived at the scene. Paramedics pronounced him dead shortly after. Police said there are no suspects in custody.

Jack Barry, former president of the Sunset Heights Association of Responsible People, said he was shocked to hear that there was a homicide in the typically quiet neighborhood.

“Usually things like this happen in Richmond and Oakland,” he said.
