Vertical two-wheelers making a comeback

Does anyone remember seeing Segway tours in Golden Gate Park in 2008?

If you missed the guided groups of people wearing helmets rolling around the park in their upright transportation devices at a fierce 6 mph that year, they’re probably on their way back.

Rec and Park permitted a trial program in 2008 but it only let the company arrange reservations online.

But the company netted about $46,000.

Now Rec and Park wants a someone to set up shop in the parking lot behind the Music Concourse and pay at least $35,000 a year to do the same thing, but in person.

If that sounds like something you’re into, here’s the request for proposals.

If you’re just interested in watching or doing a tour, the lease would commence in July.

The Rec and Park Commission will decide if they want to put out the request for proposals at their regular meeting on Thursday.
