Verdict still out on county judge seat

With 140 of 553 precincts reporting Tuesday night, it was too close to call who won the election for San Mateo Superior Court judge.

Trial attorney and judicial arbitrator Jerry Nastari had a very slight edge over his opponent, court attorney and facilitator Don Franchi.

The two were vying to replace retiring Judge John Runde, who has sat on the court for 20 years. The winner will join the court’s team of 26 judges, who rotate biannually through a host of assignments, such as overseeing criminal, probate or family law cases.
