VA Poll: Kaine 43, Allen 42

Quinnipiac University Polling Institute released a poll this morning shoeing the Senate race between former-Gov. Tim Kaine, D, and former-Sen. George Allen, R, is a statistical dead heat with 43 percent of respondents choosing Kaine and 42 percent choosing Allen. Other nuggets from the poll:

  • Independent voters favor Allen 46 – 38 percent
  • One in 10 Virginia voters remains undecided
  • Men favor Allen 47 – 40 percent, while women back Kaine 45 – 37 percent

Quinnipiac’s poll also has some troubling signs for President Obama’s efforts to win the state for a second time:

  • His approval rating is even at 48 – 48
  • His reelect is split at 47 – 47
  • He narrowly beats a generic “Republican candidate 43 – 41
