USF's DeGeer reaps WCC honor

It took a while for USF men's soccer player Daniel DeGeer to make an impact, but when he did, boy, did he make a difference.

The senior scored his first two career goals off of first-half free kicks and then assisted on the decisive goal in the second half of USF's 3-2 victory over San Jose State. His five-point day earned him a share of West CoastConference Player of the Week honors. Gonzaga sophomore Ben Funkhouser also earned a piece of the award thanks to his goal in the 85th minute that knocked off 15th-ranked Washington. DeGeer had just four points in his career entering the game.

The Dons (2-1) have a big weekend ahead of them as they host Cal on Friday at 7 p.m. and travel to Stanford on Sunday at 7 p.m.
