  • USF women's basketball coach Jennifer Azzi signed three recruits Wednesday who will join the Dons for the 2015-16 season.

Ninni Salmi of Finland, Dagny McConnell of Beaverton, Ore., and Jaylin Jones of Placentia signed national letters of intent Tuesday to play for the USF women's basketball team beginning with the 2015-16 season, the school announced.

Salmi is a 6-foot-2 shooting guard who has played for the Finnish national team. She will be the third international player on the Dons' roster, joining current freshmen Anna Seilund of Denmark and Michaela Rakova of Slovakia. Salmi's mother, Mariliisa, was a four-time All-American at BYU (1984-87).

McConnell is a 6-3 center at Beaverton High School, where she has been the team captain for two years and is in her fourth year on varsity.

Jones, a 5-11 forward, plays at El Dorado High School, where she was named All-California Interscholastic Federation Division 2A last season and was name co-MVP of the Southern Section All-Century League by MaxPreps.

"All three of our signees bring unique skill sets to the team that fit very well in our system," coach Jennifer Azzi said in a released statement. "We are excited to welcome Ninni, Dagny and Jaylin to the USF basketball family."

USF opens this season Friday at 7 p.m. against Columbia at War Memorial Gymnasium.
