USF women upset Pacific, advance to WCC Tournament semifinals

LAS VEGAS — Taj Winston scored 20 points and Taylor Proctor added 19 as the sixth-seeded USF women's basketball team used a tough defense to upset third-seeded Pacific 74-64 Thursday in the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament.

The Dons (18-12) advance to Monday's semifinal against the winner of today's quarterfinal between second-seeded San Diego and seventh-seeded Santa Clara. It was the second straight game USF beat the Tigers (21-9) as the Dons won 91-79 in Stockton on Saturday.

While the Dons shot 47.8 percent from the field, they held Pacific to just 31.7 percent. USF also had a definite advantage at the free-throw line, converting 26 of 35 attempts while the Tigers were 15-of-21.

Zhane Dikes was the only other Don in double figures with 11 points.
