USF bats come alive in win over UC Riverside 

Dominic Miroglio went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs as the USF baseball team used a four-run fifth inning to beat UC Riverside 10-1 Sunday at Benedetti Diamond.

Derek Atkinson went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and three runs scored for the Dons (3-12), who took two of three games against the Highlanders (7-9).

USF steadily built a 3-0 lead as Miroglio singled home a run in the first, Connor Hoffman homered in the second and Atkinson homered in the third. After Riverside scored in the top of the fifth, the Dons strung together five hits to score four runs. Michael Eaton, who went 2-for-4, highlighted the outburst with an RBI triple.

TEXAS 12, STANFORD 4

Stanford starter Griffin Weir couldn’t get out of the first inning as the Longhorns (10-6) rolled past the Cardinal (9-8) at Austin, Texas.

Weir issued four walks and one hit, surrendering five runs in two-thirds of an inning. Six Stanford pitchers combined to walk nine and allow 15 hits.

Freshman Mikey Diekroeger went 1-for-4 with a triple and is the Cardinal’s top hitter at .381, including .500 during a current seven-game hitting streak.

CAL 8, CHICAGO STATE 1

Sophomore third baseman Lucas Erceg had a homer and three RBIs, while freshman left-hander Matt Ladrech allowed six hits in eight innings as the Golden Bears (12-3) swept a three-game series from the Cougars (2-11) at Evans Diamond.

Cal has won seven straight and 11 of their last 12 entering Pac-12 Conference play next weekend against Oregon.

SAN FRANCISCO STATE 7, CAL STATE EAST BAY 3

Mark Lindsey went 3-for-3 and scored three runs and the Gators (8-10, 7-5 California Collegiate Athletic Association) scored all seven runs in the final three innings to beat the Pioneers (4-12, 1-11) at Hayward to sweep the four-game series.
