Urban, Lick open with victories 

The Urban girls’ basketball team showed why it is the favorite in the Bay Counties League West with a 53-41 win over host University in the league opener for both schools.

USF-bound Jakkie Boka-Timmerberg led the Blues (12-1, 1-0 BCL) with 22 points and eight rebounds while Jenn Marquez controlled the floor posting nine assists and five steals.

"Their pressure defense just wore us down," University coach Marvin Lui said.

Lick-Wilmerding 44, Marin Academy 37

Freshman Traci Chang netted 30 points as the host Tigers (8-5, 1-0) turned back the Wildcats.

Chang hit three 3-pointers in the game, while older sister Trisha Chang (a senior) scored six points for Lick-Wilmerding.
