Upstanding citizen, others allegedly rip off food bank

WHAT: Much-honored volunteer Florence D’Imperio, 90, was arrested on suspicion of systematically looting donated food from the Westchester County, N.Y., food pantry. Also arrested were her son, a Harrison, N.Y., public works foreman, and four other city workers.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: Public service officials and police found it so difficult to believe that the elderly volunteer and trusted city employees were stealing donated food that they ran a two-month surveillance sting before making arrests.

WHAT’S BEING DONE:
The accused city employees have been suspended and the senior citizen looter and the other five defendants will be arraigned next week.
