UPDATE: CHP seeking SSF man in connection with pedestrian's death on I-280

The California Highway Patrol is trying to locate a 78-year-old South San Francisco man in connection with a collision that killed a pedestrian on Interstate Highway 280 in Daly City on Sunday morning, a CHP officer said.

The CHP responded to Highway 280 south of John Daly Boulevard at about 5:50 a.m., when a man walking on the southbound shoulder tried to cross the roadway, CHP Officer Shawn Chase said.

The pedestrian, later identified as 53-year-old Oakland resident Walter Barrett, was struck and killed by a gray 2009 Toyota Corolla.

The driver of the Toyota left the car at the scene and ran away, Chase said.

Investigators are trying to contact George Taussig, the registered owner of the Toyota. Taussig is described as a white man about 6 feet tall with blue eyes and gray hair.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who might have information on Taussig's whereabouts is asked to contact investigating CHP Officer Cathy Bowling at (415) 557-1094.
