Unions to propose alternative to short workweek

City labor unions are expected to come forward with some a more specific proposal for alternatives to Mayor Gavin Newsom’s 37.5-hour work week.

The Mayor has said all along he is open to alternatives, but hasn’t heard anything that would work to save The City $100 million at a time when it’s facing a more than $500 million budget shortfall.

Newsom agreed to a moratorium on the firing and rehiring of more than 17,000 city workers while the two entities work to hash out an agreement this week.
