Unconscious surfer brought ashore at Ocean Beach dies

A surfer who was pulled unconscious from the waters off of San Francisco’s Ocean Beach on Wednesday afternoon has died, according to the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office.

Jonathan Luhn, 44, of San Jose, was identified Thursday as the man who was spotted floating in the water at about 1 p.m. Wednesday.

A good Samaritan brought him onto shore, called 911 and started doing CPR, San Francisco Fire Department Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.

Luhn was taken to the UC San Francisco Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, but the official cause of death might take weeks to determine, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
