Two people were wounded, including a woman standing on her front lawn, when gunfire erupted Saturday night in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood, San Francisco police said.

The shooting took place just after 8 p.m. near the basketball courts at Santos Street and Brookdale Avenue.

A 22-year-old San Francisco man, who was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, told police he had been approached by two or three men at the basketball courts. The men tried to rob him, but he refused and was beaten, the man said, according to police.

The victim’s phone was taken and when he ran, one of the suspects shot him multiple times and the group fled, police said. The man then ran bleeding to a store, where an ambulance was called.

A woman, approximately 50 years old, who was standing in her front yard nearby was hit by one of the bullets and hospitalized with minor injuries, according to SFPD.

The suspects were described only as Latino or Samoan males. No arrests were made.

Police are looking for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francsico Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411.
