Two punched for backpacks

Two men were punched in the face and robbed of their backpacks in separate incidents that occurred within minutes of each other Monday, police said.

A 42-year-old man was socked in the 2000 block of Mission Street at 2:50 a.m., police said. The suspect, a 42-year-old black man, allegedly snagged the victim’s backpack and fled, police said. The seasoned crook was later caught and arrested. The victim got his backpack, wallet and keys back, police said.

The other victim wasn’t as lucky. Around 3 a.m. at 7th and Market streets, a 47-year-old man was punched and robbed of his backpack and cell phone, police said. He didn’t get his stuff back, no arrest was made and the man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, cops said.
