Two officers hospitalized after training exercise crash

One motorcycle cop clipped another one, causing a crash that injured both, during a training exercise for a funeral procession in Chinatown on Wednesday.

Both are experienced motorcycle officers and were hospitalized, but their injuries are not life-threatening, police Lt. Lyn Tomioka said.

The accident occurred at 12:54 p.m. as the motorcycles were riding up California Street near Grant Avenue in a training exercise for a motorcade. Exactly how it occurred is still under investigation, but the base of a tall orange pylon used for traffic delineation was somehow involved, Tomioka said.

The last accident involving a motorcycle officer happened two years ago, she said.
