Two more meetings scheduled on Rec and Park budget

There are two more budget meetings this week for the Recreation and Park Department, and here is what the department is proposing.

Rec and Park has to submit its tentative suggestions for how it will cut about 20 percent of its general fund of $33.4 million to Mayor Gavin Newsom’s office on Feb. 19.

Then it will go through about three months of negotiations.

One of the remaining meetings is this evening at 6 p.m. in the Joseph Lee Recreation Center at 1395 Mendell St. and the other is Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Sunset Recreation Center at 2201 Lawton St.

So far, Rec and Park has proposed ideas on how to generate up to $7 million worth of revenue to compensate for the slashes, but has only proposed about $2.6 million in reductions -- most of which have to do with cutting back recreation hours and personnel.
