Two men shot in the Bayview district

Two men were shot in separate incidents in the Bayview on Monday and police are investigating whether they are connected.

The first shooting happened outside a house in the first block of Bertha Lane around 11:50 a.m., Lt. Joe McFadden said.

A man in his early 20s was standing outside when three men he said he did not recognize approached him, and one proceeded to shoot at him, McFadden said.

The victim ran toward Hudson Avenue, where someone saw him and called police.

He was taken to a hospital with a bullet wound and is expected to survive, McFadden said.

The suspects were gone when police arrived.

Then around 7 p.m. a man in his early 20s and his uncle ran into a convenience store near the 2900 block of San Bruno Avenue asking someone to call 911 because they had been shot at in a drive-by, McFadden said.

The man in his early 20s then realized he had been shot in the elbow.

Police found casings at the scene, but no suspects.

The victim and his uncle went to San Francisco General Hospital on their own, and the victim is expected to survive.

The police gang task force is investigating whether the two shootings are related, but it is not clear whether they are actually gang-related, McFadden said.

Plain-clothed officers and uniformed ones are saturating the area, he said.
