Two-car crash near GG Park sends three to hospital, snarls commute

A two-car crash near San Francisco's Golden Gate Park this morning sent three people to the hospital and shut down part of a busy thoroughfare during the morning commute.

The crash was reported at 7:32 a.m. at Cross Over Drive and Fulton Street.

The initial report indicated that someone was trapped inside a mangled vehicle, but that turned out not to be the case, fire department spokeswoman Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.

Three people were taken to a hospital by ambulance, but their injuries were not life-threatening and the ambulances didn't use their lights or sirens, she said.

San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza did not yet have details on how the crash happened but said two cars were involved and that one overturned.

The crash occurred on a curvy stretch of roadway that can be hazardous, particularly when the road is wet, Esparza said.

"People should slow down," he said.

The accident shut down the northbound lanes of Cross Over Drive during the height of the morning commute.
