Two arrests made in early morning car theft

Two men were arrested Monday in connection with an early morning robbery and car theft, San Mateo police reported.

The victim and two friends were walking to his parked car on the 200 block of North Claremont Street around 1:47 a.m. Monday after leaving a nearby party, when they were approached by one of the suspects, according to Lt. Mike Brunicardi. The suspect tried to ask the three men about their jewelry, but when they ignored him, he allegedly tried to pull a chain off the victim’s neck and punched him in the back of the head, police said.

The suspect then pointed a gunlike object at the victim. The victim ran away with his friends but dropped his keys, allowing the suspects to steal his car.

Officers stopped the vehicle a short time later on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near Alemany Boulevard in San Francisco.

Kevin Taft Miller, 38, of San Mateo, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, auto theft and a parole violation, and Keenan Jones, 41, of Redwood City, was arrested on suspicion of auto theft and possession of a switchblade knife.
