Two arrested in San Francisco after cellphone struggle

An attempted cellphone robbery inside the Jack in the Box restaurant on Geary Street near Union Square was thwarted early Thursday after the courageous victim stood his ground, police said.

About 12:15 a.m., police said, thugs hungry for fast loot grabbed a 21-year-old man’s cellphone inside the eatery, which is located at the Mason Street intersection.

A 21-year-old suspect attempted to flee with the phone, police said, but the victim caught him and fought to get it back. The second suspect, a 19-year-old man, reportedly struck the victim from behind. However, the struggle lasted long enough for police officers to arrive and make arrests.

The victim’s injuries were minor, police said.
